Hi. I've just started methotrexate as a treatment for lupus. As of now, I've only had the one dose of 5 mg, but will be working to up to 15 mg. Has anyone out there had any experience with this drug? I'd love to hear how others found it...

I was on methotrexate for two years, 10 mg a week, it used to make me nauseous, but not real bad, I still could work. I stopped taking it, just two months ago, simply because I wanted to see if I could live without it. My doctor doesn't know yet, but I will see her soon and tell her. She probably won't like it, but if I feel fine she may not say much. She goes a lot by how I feel. Prednisone seems to work best, and I never gained a pound on it like she said I would, in fact I lost 4 pounds because it gave me more energy so I could move. But I guess everyone is different.
I just don't like taking anything longterm. As it is, I was on Vioxx for over 6 months and now look at the news. ![]() |

HELLO,
My name is kisha. I had lupus for 16 years and i'm 34 years old. i was 18 when diagnoised. however my daughter has JUVINILE ARTHRITIS SINCE SHE WAS SEVEN.She is now 16 and she was on methotrexate pills for a long time then they switched her to the shot once aweek because it had less side affects. SHE did great on it. However she has been off it for about 3 months because her artritis has improved. so being experienced in these areas i say to you and everyone let the doctor know how and what you are feeling. And please do not stop any medication b4 talking with your doctor first. even though you may seem well stoping a medication depending on what it is takes weining. your body can go into shock and you can die. This is very important. I am also a volunteer peer health educator for lupus patients.so i know what i'm talking about. I'm thinking about becoming the organizer for one of the bronx lupus groups. OK I hope my input helps. Weather you have lupus or something else just stay positive and keep GOD first. GOD BLESS ![]() |

Hi, I was diagnosed with lupus in 1999 and I took methotrexate for about 18 months. My doctor tried me on many different drugs to suppress lupus symptoms and metho worked the longest. I took the injections that I gave myself. The side effects I had were nausea and headaches for a couple days after the injection. I had to stop taking it because it went toxic on me really bad. That doesn't happen much so I don't think you need to worry about it. The only other drug that worked wonders is cytoxan and I didn't care for the side effects of that. I wish I could take metho again, but my doc won't risk it.
